Police Investigate Troy Fire

On October 25, 2011, Troy Fire Chief Tom Garrett said that the fire was considered suspicious, and stated that New York State fire investigators were called in to examine the building. The fire started in the basement of the restaurant on Second Avenue in Lansingburgh and quickly spread throughout the restaurant with heavy fire shooting out of the roof. Firefighters from Watervliet and Green Island aided the Troy Fire Department in battling the two alarm fire. Chief Garrett said the fire was brought under control in about an hour. Garret further stated that despite retaining smoke, fire and water damage, the structure was not a total loss. Captain John Cooney of the Troy Police Department stated that police obtained a search warrant for the restaurant and seized a part of the refrigeration unit and a compressor from the basement. The owner of the building had been embroiled in a legal battle with the man he leased the restaurant to. A 2009 fire at the adjoining Hot Dog Charlie's closed Trader Ed's for some time, and the restaurant had been closed for about a month before Thursday's fire.
