FDNY Honor Legion Inducts Heroes

On March 12, 2010, the Honor Legion of the Fire Department of the Coty of New York held an Induction Ceremony at the Marina Del Rey in Throgs Neck. The Honor Legion consists of active members and honorary members. Active members are firefighters who have been cited by the Board of Merit for performing deeds of valor at imminent risk of life or who have been commended for meritorious acts of bravery. The purpose of the Honor Legion is to advance and promote the best interests of the FDNY.

This year fifteen firefighters were inducted into the organization. Congratulations to Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano, Battalion Chief Rochelle Jones, Battalion Chief Thomas Richardson, Lieutenant James Earl, Firefighter Richard Bailey, Firefighter John L. Kroon, Firefighter Daniel Foley, Firefighter Brian M. Copper, Firefighter Charles Botti, Captain James Ellson, Firefighter Scott J. Hamelburg, Firefighter Christopher P. Kelly, Lieutenant Thomas O’Day, Lieutenant Kevin F. Quinn, Firefighter Anthony Mike Romano, Firefighter Michael Roskowinski, Lieutenant Victor Spadaro, and Captain James E Walsh.

In conclusion, Retired Captain John T. Vigiano was honored with the Commissioner William M. Feehan Award. Captain Vigiano, who retired in 1998, has been cited for meritorious duty over 28 times. He has authored numerous articles, along with training manuals that are still used by the FDNY today. John is continually giving of himself; he is involved with the Suffolk County Association of Retired Firefighters and the Wounded Warriors. Captain Vigiano serves as a role model for all firefighters throughout the fire service.
