Bike Race Held in Stirling
Each year in July, rain or shine, the Freedom Tour Bike
Races are held in Stirling. This year the race was held on Sunday, July 27,
2008. It marked the Eighteenth Anniversary of this event. A highlight of the
Freedom Tour was the 10th running of the New Jersey Firefighters Bike Race
which raises money for the Saint Barnabas Burn Center in Livingston.
Firefighters compete in a friendly race wearing full turnout gear except for
fire boots, which makes pedaling a hazard.
First time participants, Jefferson Twp Fire Company
Number Two Firefighter Bill Weir placed ninth out of 96 participants and
Firefighter Lee Williams placed first for the women's division.
