Wallington Engine Company Wins
Several Parade Awards

The Wallington Engine Company of the Town of Sodus,
Wayne County, NY, had quite a weekend for parades and awards the weekend of
June 13th, and 14th, 2008. It all began with the parade on Friday night June
13th at the annual Sodus Fire Department Parade, which was also the annual
Wayne County Fireman’s County Convention Parade. This year the Sodus Fire
Department was the host for the convention, and the annual Sodus Fire
Department Carnival, was also run in conjunction with the convention. The
fire fighters from Wallington looked really sharp as they passed through the
parade route, and wound up winning four awards at the end of the parade.
Wallington wound up winning the first place award for best appearing Fire
Department overall, first place award for most men in line, which they had
27 marching along with four of their members also driving the apparatus,
bringing the total amount of members participating in the parade to 31,
which is not bad considering they have approximately 40 active members. They
also won the first place award for Best Appearing Engine, which is their
Engine 40 a 1997 RD Murray engine. Their final award for the evening was
Best Appearing Tanker, which is their Tanker 22 a 2004 Freightliner RD
Murray tanker. They also had their brand new 2008 Freightliner E-One Heavy
Rescue 32 in the parade, but it was not eligible to win any awards this year
due to the county convention parade rules.
Following a very busy and rewarding night, early on Saturday morning the
14th, eight of the Wallington fire fighters took a five- hour road trip down
to Wallington, NJ, for their parade. Wallington, NY and NJ are very tight
with one another and quite often will travel to one another’s functions.
While the eight were marching in NJ, six other members of the NY Wallington
were participating in the local Newark, NY Fire Department parade along with
the trucks. The eight who were marching in NJ came home with a special
trophy, which was the “Judges Choice Award for the furthest distance
traveled”. Wallington also faired well at the Newark parade, and all in all
had a great weekend of winning awards to display proudly in their trophy
room at the fire station. For more information on the Wallington, NY Fire
Department visit their website. The address is:
