Send Us News of Your
Departments
The New York State Edition of the Fire News is looking for stories and
photographs from your department. We not only print stories about fires
and motor vehicle accidents, but are also looking to publicize your
training sessions, drills, weddings, and obituaries. In addition, we are
planning special features: Up Close and Personal (shots of individuals),
Family Corner (pictures showing family members in the same department),
and Motley Crews(informal buddy shots).
We accept photos from departments, “buffs,” and professional
photographers, who may wish to query the editor about our rates. Photos
and captions may be sent by e-mail to nys@firenews.com, chuck@firenews.com,
or by regular mail to Fire News, 146 South Country Road, Bellport, NY
11713.
E-mail photos should be sent as jpg’s at 300 dpi. We prefer photos
showing firefighters or EMS providers in action. Captions should include
all the information pertinent to the incident: location, date, time,
department(s) responding, chief in charge, mutual aid providers. The
deadline for editorial material is the first of each month.
Most captions should be written in the past tense; after all, you are
reporting on an event that already happened. Announcements should be
written in the future tense. We like to use the full title of officers,
such as “First Lieutenant Joe Smith,” and the full name of the
department, such as the “Hannibal Fire Company.”
Letters to the editor should be signed, with a return street or e-mail
address.
