

On Friday, August 1, 2008,, a
male golfer was seriously injured in an accident involving a
golf cart that struck a guard rail along Edgemere Road and the
Garden City Country Club in Garden City. In the early afternoon,
the Garden City Fire Department Station #2, which is located
adjacent to the golf course, was alerted by a frantic person
that a golfer had been injured at the nearby golf course.
Firefighters from Garden City, along with the Garden City
Police, Nassau County Emergency Services Unit, and the Nassau
Police Ambulance Bureau responded to the incident. Due to the
severity of the patient’s leg injury, a medevac was requested,
and the Nassau County Police Aviation Unit responded, airlifting
the patient to hospital. Police and firefighters assisted in
packaging and moving the patient from the scene to the
helicopter for transport.

North Lawrence MVA

The Meadowmere Park Fire Department along
with the Nassau County Police 4th Precinct responded to a car
which struck the under carriage of a 12000- gallon gasoline
tanker at the intersection of Route 878 and Bay Boulevard in
North Lawrence on Friday, August 1, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. Only
minor injuries were reported, and the gasoline tanker was empty
on its way to re-fuel at a depot in Inwood at the time of the
accident. Traffic was an issue in the area for over thirty
minutes while emergency crews had to redirect the traffic away
from the scene of the incident.

car vs store front


The Woodmere Fire Department and Nassau
County Police 4th Precinct responded to Broadway at the corner
of Conklin Avenue for a car which crashed through the store
front of the South Shore Bike Shop on Friday, August 8, 2008, at
2:25 p.m. The car, which was operated by an elderly male,
apparently lost control, drove up onto the curb, hit and knocked
over the fire hydrant, and crashed through the storefront.
Luckily there were no pedestrians in the area or patrons close
to the store window at the time of the accident. The driver, who
sustained only minor injuries, was treated at the scene by
emergency medical technicians from the Woodmere FD. Traffic was
diverted from the area for a short time until the scene was
secured.

suv vs. house

On Tuesday, August 12,
the Hempstead Fire Department responded to a call for an auto
into a house on South Franklin Avenue. Arriving units found an
SUV had been forced off the roadway and smashed into the side of
a nearby house. Several occupants of the vehicle were injured
but no one in then house was hurt. The electric and gas services
were impacted by the crash and utility companies were called to
the scene. Chief Rugg was in command.

Copiague Crash

On Tuesday, August 5,
2008, the Copiague F.D. responded to the corner of Sunrise
Highway and Bethpage Road for an MVA with overturn. The driver
of a Jeep Liberty apparently fell asleep while driving and side
swiped two cars before leaving the road and overturning multiple
times coming to rest against the Furn-A-Kit building. The driver
of the Jeep and one of the cars were injured and taken to Good
Samaritan Hospital by Copiague F.D. rescue with non-life
threatening injuries.

Lakeview mva

The Lakeview Fire Department and NCPD units
responded to this two- car accident at the intersection of Eagle
and Jennings Avenues early Sunday morning, August 3, 2008. One
vehicle knocked down a fire hydrant and landed up on the
adjacent sidewalk. Several civilians were injured and were
transported to local hospitals.

Jericho Turnpike
Pile Up Brings Multi-Agency Response

A multi-vehicle collision between a Honda,
Saab, and Lexus sedans, and a Bronco SUV resulted in five people
injured Sunday night, August 10, on Jericho Turnpike near East
Deer Park Road in Dix Hills. The Dix Hills Fire Department,
Commack Fire Department, and Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps
responded along with Suffolk Police ESU to the crash that closed
Jericho Turnpike in both directions for about an hour. Commack
firefighters handled a quick door extrication on one of the cars
involved. Fifty firefighters and rescue personnel were on the
scene with four heavy rescues, two engines, five ambulances,
first responder paramedic units and fire police. The five
injured patients were transported to Huntington Hospital by Dix
Hills FD Rescue and Commack Ambulances. Units were under the
direction of Dix Hills FD Assistant Chiefs Rich Granahan and Tom
Magno.
