Hewlett house fire

The Woodmere Fire Department responded to a house fire on Smith Lane in Hewlett Neck on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at 6:20 a.m.. Heavy fire spread throughout the turn of the century structure and left several firefighters suffering from heat exhaustion. All firefighters were treated at the scene. It took three hours and over 150 firefighters utilizing mutual aid from Hewlett, Lawrence Cedarhurst, Inwood, Meadowmere Park, Valley Stream, East Rockaway, Lynbrook, Rockville Centre Fire Departments to extinguish the blaze. Malverne, Long Beach, and Elmont Fire Departments covered the Third Battalion with standby companies while the units operated at the scene of the fire. The Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office is investigation the cause which did not appear to be suspicious.
