Suffolk Legislature Honors

Commack Firefighters

The Suffolk County Legislature recently honored two Commack firefighters for their heroic rescue of an elderly woman from her blazing home. Commack FD Chief Salvatore Formica, with the assistance of Ex-Chief Robert Jinks, were able to pull the 78-year-old woman from the blaze on September 2. Unfortunately, despite their brave efforts, the woman later died on October 9 from injuries sustained in the fire. "The County of Suffolk recognizes the valuable contributions of our dedicated fire and rescue volunteers who selflessly give of their time and effort, and even jeopardize their own personal safety to protect the property and people of our community," read the official proclamations. The Suffolk legislators whose districts represent the areas served by Commack Fire Department made the presentation at a session of the County Legislature. Pictured from left, are Legislator Jon Cooper, Chief Salvatore Formica, Ex-Chief Robert Jinks, Legislator John Kennedy, Jr., and Legislator Lynne Nowick.
